So, this is my first ever shot really customizing windows. I finally got a desktop and loaded it on, and got to tweaking. Since I'm relatively new to customizing Windows, I've got a couple questions.

1) How to do use custom icons, I'm used to Cmd + I on Macs and Candybar I have no idea where to start.
2) Some programs won't show the Explorer sidebar when trying to select a file. Is that just because of APPOWS? Anyway to fix it?
3) I'm using MediaMonkey for a media player because of the aforementioned issue in foobar2000, I can't get it to import my music because of it.
4) Where was bblean all of my life?
5) So, where should I even start with Rainmeter? the APPOWS skin for it is kinda lacking options.

Anyhow, if for some reason you've got questions, tell em' to me! I *might* have an answer. Windows is a new beast for me.

There's an alternative shell style for Appows that includes the folderband, which might help with your programs not showing. Its included with the original download. Will also chime in and say the explorerframe is an odd choice. Rainmeter isnt necessary really. To be honest you went the easy route with the theme choice, but I've seen worse. Rajliv is probably talking about 3DCC, which is a separate plugin. Give this link a gander, good luck. [link]

Thanks for the info. I don't really see any potential use personally for Rainmeter, so I guess it doesn't matter. And I know I picked an easy theme, but then again, I'm a n00b when it comes to Windows theming. bblean (I think) deleted shell32 before I had the chance to backup, so I had to just reinstall Windows, so I'll look at this later, when I've got backups and am not so worried about having to reinstall Windows. Thanks for that link though, looks really, really useful.

Nice! Glad that you've found blackbox :)

About your questions:
1 - this involves patching a lot of windows resources. There are some applications that have packs and let you do this like memovaslg mentioned. If you like the Linux style and simlicity, I recommend Tango patcher/icon pack: [link]
2 - not sure if you know, but bbLean has a 64bit build, you could use that with its bbLeanskin plugin for custom window frames in combination the minimal Windows Classic style.

1) Thanks for the informative post!
2) I will grab that, looks really handy.
3) Are you talking about the built in bbleanSkin plugin? Making sure there's no update I need to grab.

Yes, I mean the built in one. Since you have a 64-bit system, you should use 64-bit build of bbLean, bbLeanskin works perfect there. Nevermind if you're already using bbLean 64-bit. :)

Nice... very nice ;)

Yeah agree with memovaslg on this. All the icons need changing and the explorer frame back and forward buttons need to be black to the match the rest. That Media Player icon should be blank too. Lastly the fonts are also not consistent; Picture Library and the CAD fonts. Fix all them and this will be a good setup.

I'm a n00b when it comes to Windows customization, so any tips on how to go about this? Any methods that are better than others?

So I can change all the system icons with IconPackager? Good to know. What do you mean I "need chance a lot of think the explorerframe buttons and frame? That part is a little hard for me to understand.
